The Advocacy Project helps marginalized communities to tell their story, claim their rights and produce social change. We recruit graduate students to volunteer as Peace Fellows with partners.

"Speaking with locals and living in a country is the best way to learn about the real lives of citizens, not just the stories in the mainstream media. I will be more critical of what I read as a result of this experience. I also feel even more grateful for my education, and I feel a stronger responsibility to assist others who do not have resources or access to opportunities in their communities."

This quilt commemorates teachers that were killed during the massacre.





Dževad Alić.
Born on April 21, 1965.  He was the director of the primary school in Potocari-Srebrenica prior to the massacre in 1995.a
Junuz Begić.
Born on April 29, 1946.  He was a teacher at the primary school in Potocari-Srebrenica.

Redžep Bektić.
Born on April 20, 1950.  He was the director of the primary school in Seceska-Srebrenica.

Hedib Čivić.
Born on October 14, 1943.  He was a physics teacher in Srebrenica.

Hidin Čivić.
Born on January 14, 1960.  He was a teacher in Srebrenica.

Zikret Džananović.
Born on October 15, 1961. He was a math teacher at the school in Osat-Srebrenica.

Mevlid Džananović.
Born on July 1, 1956.  He was a math teacher at the school in Osat-Srebrenica.

Vejsil Harbaš.
Born on April 4, 1960.  He was employed as a biology teacher at the school in Osat-Srebrenica.
Jusuf Halilović.
Born on June 19, 1948.  Mr. Halilović was a teacher in Srebrenica.

Born on May 25, 1949.  He was a biology teacher in Srebrenica.

Suljo Mašić.
Born on February 14, 1941.  Prior to the war, he was a teacher and then became an administrator for several schools in the region.
Omer Mustafić.
Born on February 14, 1947.  He was a teacher in Srebrenica.

Born on October 8, 1946.  He was a teacher in Srebrenica.

Hamed Salihović.
Born on September 18, 1942. He was a professor at a secondary school.

Born on March 23, 1955.  He worked as a physics teacher at the school in Potocari-Srebrenica.

Born on May 10, 1963.  He was a math teacher in Srebrenica.

Mevludin Smajić.
Born on October 6, 1960.  He was an elementary school teacher in Srebrenica and worked primarily with first through fourth grade students.
Ahmo Smajlović.
Born on May 2, 1959.  He was a math teacher at the school in Srebrenica-Potocari.

Born on December 16, 1941.  He was a biology and chemistry teacher in Srebrenica.

Mehmed Tupković.
Born on January 29, 1929.  Mr. Tupković, a retired teacher, was living in Srebrenica at the time of the massacre.
