Training
The Advocacy Project has learned much about human rights advocacy over the years, and these lessons have now been collected and turned into a training program. AP will offer training in community-based advocacy through its staff, consultants and Peace Fellows.
Recent Trainings:
May 4-May 11, 2007: AP Executive Director Iain Guest trained nine UN human rights fellows at the office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva. Subsequent to the training, the nine attended the June meeting of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. Five of the fellows attended the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues at the UN in New York.
About this Service:
AP training seeks to help community-based partners understand and exploit nine steps to human rights advocacy:
- Setting goals and objectives (strategic planning)
- Defining the message
- Producing information
- Using ICT
- Disseminating material
- Building a constituency (networking)
- Reaching out and influencing (outreach)
- Taking collective action
- Strengthening the organization
