Clara Kollm and Chintan Environmental Action and Research Group
Clara will be working with Chintan Environmental Action and Research Group in New Delhi, India this summer after graduating with a B.S. in Environmental Science and Policy this May from the University of Maryland, College Park. While at UMD, Clara also completed a minor in International Development and Conflict Management and a certificate in Public Leadership, as well as an internship in Washington D.C. with a non-profit environmental law firm, Earthjustice. She will be continuing her education this fall when she starts at Georgetown University Law Center, where she plans to study international environmental law.
Chintan Environmental Action and Research Group is dedicated to improving the lives of those in the wastepicker communities of New Delhi. Although some may question traveling to India in the midst of the summer heat to volunteer, for Clara this is an ideal opportunity.
Clara’s desire to work internationally was solidified when she spent a semester abroad in Thailand, an experience that gave her the opportunity to travel to Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar (Burma), Indonesia, and Singapore. She is looking forward to returning to a developing country where she will be able to work more directly with local people in their quest for social and environmental justice. While abroad, Clara will work with Chintan to uphold the Advocacy Project’s mission of being a ‘voice for the voiceless’ and raising awareness of those marginalized in these communities.
Clara plans to cover the cost of her fellowship entirely through fundraising, so donations are greatly appreciated.
