A Voice For the Voiceless

The Advocacy Project helps marginalized communities to tell their story, claim their rights and produce social change. We recruit graduate students to volunteer as Peace Fellows with partners.

The Impact of Service

"I look at myself as having the potential to be as strong and caring as the amazing women I met in Kenya."

Kate Cummings (Tufts University) volunteered in 2009 as a Peace Fellow for Vital Voices in Africa.

Sponsor a Fellow

The Advocacy Project is seeking sponsors for the 2010 fellowship program. Sponsors identify with an individual fellowship, and donate up to $5,000. $1,450 will go to the Fellow to support the cost of travel, insurance and living expenses. The remainder will support program costs.

"Having a fiscal sponsor for my Fellowship ... ensured that I could live and work in Kampala, Uganda for three months. Most valuable, I believe, was the constant connection Herb kept up with me via my blog, all summer. Herb was such a strong advocate for my advocacy. To know that there were folks, consistently, cheering me on from U.S. shores emboldened me to keep struggling, even when the struggle seemed for naught."
Julliet Hutchings (American University) volunteered with the World Peasants/ Indigenous Organization in Uganda in 2008. Her Fellowship was sponsored by Herb Parsons and Christy West.
