FES steps up efforts in outlying areas of Palestinian Territories
June 18, 2008, Ramallah – The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Foundation (FES) is beginning a study in the outlying areas of the Palestinian Territories to address high unemployment rates in Jenin, Nablus and Hebron. Many residents of these areas move to and work in Ramallah, the cultural center of the Territories, resulting in an “internal brain drain” in more far-flung districts.
The Palestinian Economic Research Institute (MAS) is assisting with the study, and FES Jerusalem is also undertaking projects in the northern part of the West Bank to counter this development and strengthen remote areas.
