A Voice For the Voiceless

The Advocacy Project helps marginalized communities to tell their story, claim their rights and produce social change. We recruit graduate students to volunteer as Peace Fellows with partners.

The Impact of Service

"I look at myself as having the potential to be as strong and caring as the amazing women I met in Kenya."

Kate Cummings (Tufts University) volunteered in 2009 as a Peace Fellow for Vital Voices in Africa.

Donna Harati and Women in Black Serbia

School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University

Donna Harati is currently pursuing a degree in Cultural and Politics with a focus on social justice from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service. She is also completing a certificate program in Women’s and Gender Studies to compliment her major by exploring social justice issues from a gendered approach.

Donna spent the past two summers working in Zambia with Project Concern International. Her first summer, she worked closely with the WORTH women’s empowerment program where she was constantly inspired by the amazing strength of the women she interacted with. A strong believer in alternative forms of conflict resolution, Donna returned the next summer to implement a peer mediation program for at risk youth in Zambian schools and for the women she worked with the previous summer through a 100 Projects for Peace grant.

Donna has also taught English in Mauritius through Learning Enterprises and worked with incarcerated adults and court adjudicated youth through Georgetown’s Center for Social Justice. Donna believes that empowerment is the key to social transformation, and she is excited to have the opportunity to work with an organization whose vision she so wholeheartedly supports.
