The organization Congolese Initiative for Justice and Peace (ICJP) is Congolese human rights organization specializing in justice and the active pursuit of peace.
The organization was established in 2002 to strengthen the capacity of actors in the field to promote the respect of human rights, justice, peace, and democratic culture in the non-violent struggle against impunity. The organization also aims to strengthen the networking associations and defenders of human and children’s rights through the use of the Internet and other modern communications technology.

The organization Congolese Initiative for Justice and Peace (ICJP) is Congolese human rights organization specializing in justice and the active pursuit of peace.
The organization was established in 2002 to strengthen the capacity of actors in the field to promote the respect of human rights, justice, peace, and democratic culture in the non-violent struggle against impunity. The organization also aims to strengthen the networking associations and defenders of human and children’s rights through the use of the Internet and other modern communications technology.
| Advocacy |
- Develop a culture of peace through the prevention and the non-violent resolution of conflict
- Promote justice by effectively combating corruption and impunity and fighting for transparency
- Facilitate the access of all social strata to the enjoyment of human rights, justice and peace
- Monitor human rights in general and specifically, those of detainees in South Kivu in collaboration with other organizations with similar objectives
- Conduct studies and surveys on specific issues of access to justice, corruption, human rights
- Strengthen networks of human rights defenders via information communications technology
- Participate in gender promotion activities
- Advocate and lobby at the local, national and international level
- Produce and disseminate publications broadcasts and other means of mass awareness on the objectives of the Association
Social Change |
- Contributes to the development, operation and the reformulation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in the Democratic Republic of Congo
- Established and coordinates the Congolese Coalition for Transitional Justice (CCJT)
- Installed and strengthened structures commonly referred to as "Chambers of Regard" throughout the province of South Kivu. There are currently 14.
- Provided free administrative, judicial, and/or legal assistance to many of the needy and the victims of violations of human rights
- Conducted training seminars for a higher level judicial officers and women leaders of civil society in Bukavu, and Uvira Kavumu on the prevention of gender based violence in South Kivu
- Informed churches, lawyers, and non-governmental organizations of the issues of transitional justice
- Advocated for the prioritization of justice during and after the elections
- Advocated, with the assistance and support of Human Rights Watch in London and in New York, against the illegal exploitation of natural resources in the DRC
- Familiarize the public on new laws against all forms of sexual violence
