Karin Orr and the Peruvian Forensic Anthropology Team (EPAF)
Monterey Institute of International Studies
Karin Elena Orr is a Master of Arts Candidate of International Policy at the Monterey Institute of International Studies (MIIS) with a focus on Conflict Resolution and Human Rights in Latin America.
This summer, Karin will be working on the “Humanitarian Umbrella” project with The Peruvian Forensic Anthropology Team (Equipo Peruano de Antropologia Forense-EPAF), restoring the identity of the disappeared in Peru and seeking justice for family members.
Karin’s emphasis was influenced by her previous work experience in Quito, Ecuador as an English language instructor. As an undergraduate Karin majored in Community Studies; a discipline that focuses on social change, community engagement and social justice work at the grassroots. After graduation Karin worked with human rights organization Global Exchange on their sweatshop free and fair trade campaigns, and well as a co-leader on their Reality Tour through the Amazon and Andean region of Ecuador. In addition, Karin worked as an intern with one of the world’s leading independent organizations in defending and protecting human rights, Human Rights Watch, working out of their development office in San Francisco, CA.
Karin’s work experience and current academic focus on Conflict Resolution has enabled her to advocate for peace while working towards restorative justice and development, in zones that have suffered from violent conflict.
