Luna Liu and Vital Voices of Kenya
University of Maryland
Luna Liu is excited to be a pioneer for the Peace Fellow program with Vital Voices of Kenya in the summer of 2009, advocating for the promotion and advancement of women. Her responsibilities will include reporting the program's activities and highlighting the program's successes through the production of materials for both print and internet publication, which will be disseminated by the AP news service.
Vital Voices Global Partnership is a pre-eminent non-governmental organization that identifies, trains, and empowers emerging women leaders and social entrepreneurs around the globe by providing them the capacity, connections, and credibility to realize their latent leadership potential.
Luna is currently a full-time Master student at the University of Maryland specializing in International Development. Meanwhile, she is interning as a research assistant at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. Prior to enrolling in UMD, Luna obtained her BA from School of Law, Tsinghua University in Beijing. She has also studied common law system in University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
Luna is familiar with awareness-raising strategies by utilizing international media agencies. She has interned in the Xinhua News Agency, the Phoenix TV Station, and the Omnicom International PR Company. She also has been encouraged to strengthen grassroots’ power in the global civil society by using and creating new media since the Salzburg Seminar in Austria.
Luna loves art and travelling. She has been backpacking alone to Pakistan, India, Nepal, Tibet, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, and many other regions. During college, she volunteered for an international education program in Turkey and worked as an art dealer in 798 Modern Art Center in Beijing.
