Melissa Muscio and eHomemakers
Melissa is pursuing a Masters degree in Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University’s Fletcher School, where she focuses on human security and development, particularly in predominantly Muslim regions of the world. Prior to graduate school, Melissa was an account executive at a high-tech public relations agency in San Francisco and an English teacher for Centro Panamericano de Idiomas in Costa Rica. Earlier, she served as legislative assistant and then marketing and public relations manager for the trade association United Telecom Council (UTC) in Washington, DC. She speaks French, Spanish and Turkish. Melissa graduated from Georgetown’s Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service with a BS in Foreign Service, and a concentration in International Relations, Law and Organization.
Melissa is now working for eHomemakers in Malaysia, a grassroots organization that focuses on women’s development. In particular, she will be helping them with their Salaam Wanita initiative, which is designed to train women for home-based work opportunities. A major component of this initiative is the sale of beautifully hand-woven baskets, uniquely designed out of recycled paper.
Melissa will be helping eHomemakers with marketing and research, as well as communications, for this and other projects, helping the organization reach a wider audience, attract funding and achieve economic sustainability. She welcomes any feedback or ideas that you may have to help these women achieve financial independence.
