A Voice For the Voiceless

The Advocacy Project helps marginalized communities to tell their story, claim their rights and produce social change. We recruit graduate students to volunteer as Peace Fellows with partners.

The Impact of Service

"I look at myself as having the potential to be as strong and caring as the amazing women I met in Kenya."

Kate Cummings (Tufts University) volunteered in 2009 as a Peace Fellow for Vital Voices in Africa.

Stacey Spivey and Jagaran Media Center (JMC)

Stacey Spivey joined The Advocacy Project in October, 2005, as a Grant Researcher and is now continuing her work with AP as a 2006 summer intern. In addition to her work with AP, she is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in International Affairs at Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service, with a concentration in International Development. Previously, Stacey served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Kyrgyzstan, teaching English in a local school for two years. Before joining the Peace Corps, she worked as a Research Assistant at the Health Privacy Project, a non-profit organization in Washington, DC. Stacey graduated summa cum laude from Tulane University in 2000 with a BA in Political Science.

This summer, Stacey will help the Jagaran Media Center, a Dalit rights organization, to raise awareness of the plight of the Dalit in Nepal. She will assist them by writing grant proposals, editing e-bulletins and newsletters, and helping the JMC to update and improve their webpage. Ultimately, Stacey plans to use her time in Nepal to learn as much as she can from the human rights activists at JMC and contribute in any way possible to the fight for Dalit rights.
