A Voice For the Voiceless

The Advocacy Project helps marginalized communities to tell their story, claim their rights and produce social change. We recruit graduate students to volunteer as Peace Fellows with partners.

The Impact of Service

"I look at myself as having the potential to be as strong and caring as the amazing women I met in Kenya."

Kate Cummings (Tufts University) volunteered in 2009 as a Peace Fellow for Vital Voices in Africa.

Serbia – Fighting Repression

This section contains reports written by the Women in Black Network from Serbia.

Women in Black's mission is to make visible nonviolent resistance to militarism, war, sexism, and nationalism. In short, all aspects of violence towards and discrimination against women and all those people different ethnically, religiously, culturally, sexually, and ideologically.  Their goal is to prevent and resolve conflicts through dialogue, and above all instigate the active participation of women in the building of peace, in peaceful processes, and demilitarization.

They promote their goals through non-violent protests taking place both in Belgrade and across Europe. Thus far, the Women in Black Network from Serbia has organized over 500 of these protests.

For more information about Women in Black, please see their website.

The Advocacy Project has sent two Fellows for Peace to work with Women in Black in Serbia: Janet Rabin in 2008 and Gail Morgado in 2007. Both blogged about their experiences.
