Attacks on Human Rights Observers Continue, Violence Escalates Between Students and Police

Seven political parties' alliance continued massive protests against royal regime in different palaces of the Kathmandu (Bhotahity, Bagbazar and Old Bus Park) city center. During a peaceful demonstration, police charged and physically assaulted hundreds of pro-democracy political leaders and activists, and arrested hundreds of them. Many of them got injured during the clash. Police also open fired many rounds of tear gas shells to suppress the demonstration. Some of them were rescued and taken to the nearby hospitals by Human Rights Observers of COCAP.



Moreover, two tear gas cells were fired inside the Neptune Boarding School, situated at Bagbazar. It has been reported that young students got faint. Many of them were crying due to the irritation of the tear gas. Human Rights Observers assisted to students to get out of school premises.

Few of COCAP Human Rights Observer Mr Sahek Bishwakarma and Anuj Chapagain were attacked and beaten deliberately by police in front of Padma Kanya (Girls) College, Kathmandu during observation. As a consequence, all human rights observers and journalists protested against the aggression of police. Afterward, the police inspector in charge publicly apologized for the actions of the officers and promised to avoid such violence in the future.
