The Third Ahadi (Promise) Quilt, 2011

The blocks for this quilt were stitched in 2010 by women who survived sexual violence during fighting in the province of South Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo. The project was managed by SOS Femmes En Danger (SOSFED), with help from Sylvie B, a Peace Fellow. The blocks were assembled into six quilts by the Faithful Circle Quilting Guild in Columbia, Maryland and the Capitol City Quilt Guild in Michigan. The artists viewed their stories as a rebuke to their attackers and requested that they be identified.
