The blocks for this quilt were stitched by ten women in northern Uganda who were kidnapped during their teens and held in sexual slavery by rebels from the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA). After escaping, the women formed an association, Women in Action for Women, and used stitching to regain their confidence and develop new skills. Peace Fellow Anna Braverman helped them describe their ordeal through embroidery in 2021. Their blocks were laid over a background of jagged broken glass by Anne Watson in North Carolina to depict the lacerating impact of sexual violence on victims.
