The blocks in this quilt were made using traditional Kenyan beads by four artists from the Samburu and Pokot tribes in Northwest Kenya, who are shown at the top and bottom of the quilt. Bobbi Fitzsimmons in North Carolina laid the blocks over a desert background to describe the threat from climate change to the pastoralists and their cattle in Northwest Kenya. The project was sponsored by Children Peace Initiative Kenya, an AP partner that works to promote peace between pastoralist tribes.
