Partners
AP seeks to work directly with community groups that represent constituencies of disempowered people and advocate for social justice. We are particularly committed to helping groups that are at an early stage in their institutional development.
In 2008, we worked with 34 community-based partners in 20 countries. All have received a Peace Fellow and all have a dedicated partner page on this site.
This past year alone, AP received around 280 inquires about partnership from around the world. While we welcome inquiries about new partnerships, typically partnerships are offered to between three and five new organizations a year. Those groups that shared our approach and met out criteria were offered a place on the AP website (on The Advocacy Forum) as a first step towards a more substantial partnership. Preference is given to advocates that emerge from the affected community and that use advocacy to produce social change.

In addition to our work with community based partners in the field, AP also allies with numerous universities as well as other international organizations that co-sponsor projects or promote the work of our partners internationally.
AP seeks to build three different types of relationships:
- Strategic partnerships with other organizations that share our commitment to community-based advocacy and are interested in using our approach in their own work. These partners will help to scale up the AP model and produce sustained results.
- Outreach partnerships with community-based activists in the US, who share the interests of our partners and will work with us to lobby on behalf of these partners in the US.
- Universities and programs that can provide recruits for our fellowship program and help to maximize the impact on Fellows.
