eHomemakers’ Video Featured on UNDP Website

December 31, 2008, Colombo, Sri Lanka: eHomemakers, a Malaysian organization that helps women to create their own home-based businesses, was recently featured as an example of good practices by the United Nations Development Fund (UNDP) regional office in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The UNDP funded a 15-minute video podcast (vodcast) made by eHomemakers, titled “Helping Women Help Themselves,” which explains how eHomemakers works and how it is making a difference in the lives of poor, Malaysian women.

In October 2007, eHomemakers was invited by the UNDP’s regional office in Colombo to participate in a workshop on “Local Poverty Reduction and MDG Localization.” eHomemakers was one among 20 organisations that were chosen by the UNDP as a case study for good practices.

The group hopes that the video documentary will help viewers gain deeper insights and a clearer understanding of the challenges faced by both eHomemakers as well as members of its Salaam Wanita project.

Advocacy Project (AP) Peace Fellow Rebecca Chon, who volunteered with eHomemakers this past summer, is featured in the video.

AP also sold baskets from eHomemakers at its recent holiday fundraising party.
