Still Waiting

12 Jun

Well it seems the stars have aligned against us and held us in Kathmandu for some unknown reason. Everything that could have happened to prevent our departure this morning happened. At 4 am we awoke to hear Anil calling from outside the locked gate of the guesthouse. There was no electricity, so he could not call, and we could not see anything. We floundered in the dark into the hallway only to find that we were locked in by a padlock and grill in the stairwell. We tried calling to Anil, but he did not hear us. Soon thereafter the skies opened and a violent rain storm started.

About an hour and a half later we heard a knock on the door. A soaked through Anil accompanied by COCAP volunteer had finally found someone to unlock our stairwell. Glad they had made it we told them it would just take us a few minutes to finish packing. They smiled and said actually we would not leave until Wednesday…there was a banda today…so even if everything had gone smoothly there would have been no bus to catch. Welcome to Nepal.
